Manager : Margaux Lapierre (Digitisation Manager)

Job title : Digitisation conservator

The British Library is the national library of the United Kingdom and give access to the world’s most comprehensive research collection. They provide information services to academic, business, research and scientific communities. They have a wide range of items, from newspapers to sound recordings, patents, prints and drawings, maps and manuscripts. They also put on exhibitions to bring their collection’s stories to the public.

I was assigned to the Digitisation team, a growing team within the Conservation department at the British Library.

During my first role within the Digitisation Team, I managed the Preservation Bids project 2020 (internal). I performed full examination, documentation and conservation treatment of works of art on paper from various collections waiting to be digitised. I also worked to help other digitisation projects, such as the Adam Matthew Digital project.

On my current post, started on March 2020, I manage the Adam Matthew Digital project (AMD), with two other conservators. I work on the main AMD project, the conservation before digitisation of items of the Indian Record office collection. I also perform assessments with treatment time estimation and survey of collections for various side projects.

I help other digitisation projects, such as the Preservation Bids project and the International Dunhuang Project (IDP) with running repairs and scroll conservation.

I also participate in presenting the AMD project to a various audience during tours, presentations and the British Library’s social media.

The British Library gave me many valuable opportunities, such as participating to several workshops, such as :

- Integrated Pest Management Module 1 and Environmental monitoring Module 1, given by Karen Bradford.

Exhibitions and loans training,  given by Rebecca d’Ambrosio and Alexa McNaught Reynolds.

Risk management for collection care given by Paul Garside.

I also attended many talks and conferences.
