CLAIRE VALERO
CONSERVATION PORTFOLIO
Held at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels de La Cambre
The exhibition was organised by l’École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels de La Cambre and the Henry van de Velde ASBL collection. It was part of international events, celebrating the 150th birthday of Henry van de Velde (1863 -1957). Van de Velde was a famous belgian architect, artist and theorist during the Art Nouveau period. He was also the first director of La Cambre, from 1927 to 1936.
It was the first time La Cambre had the chance to publicly display unknown artworks
from its archival deposit. The exhibited artworks belong to an important collection of 238 drawings and designs (a large part being large scale tracing papers, plans and photographs) for furnitures, all executed by Henry van de Velde.
The drawings were conserved and digitised with the financing help of the René et Karin Jonckheere collection, together with the art conservation department of La Cambre. Some of the artworks were displayed beside original pieces of furniture, drawing a comparison between theory and practice.
