This poster announced a bicycle contest at the Vélodrome Bruxellois during the National Day, on the 22th of July 1894, presided by the King. It is lined on two layers of white cardboard and a layer of fine paper. It was overall dusty, presented several tidelines and numerous folds, tears and losses.

 

  • Cutting the poster in two parts to facilitate further manipulations

  • Dry cleaning with soft brushes, museum vacuum, vinyl powder gum and Mars eraser

  • Facing of the two parts with Lens Tissue and Methylcellulose. The humidity provided enabled the delining at the same time

  • Blotter washings

  • Deacidification on two layers of blotter paper

  • First lining of the separate parts on thin Bolloré paper and left drying without tension under blankets

  • Second general lining in tension with Bolloré paper

  • Losses compensation with thin Silversafe paper

  • Watercolour retouching

  • Making of a preservation folder with Heritage preservation paper and preservation cardboard
